Weekend Review return of San Siro and Capannelle

Gasparini dominates yet another big handicap, Gangster De Coddes the chasing sensation continues on his merry way, Demuro wins sixth group race at Deauville festival, Collinsbay shows he can do in French sprinting and the great news of the beginning of the Autumn season in San Siro and Capannelle are the  main stories this week.                          Cristian Demuro is in inspired form at the moment in France his victory on Glycon in the Grand Prix De Deauville over 2500 metres being his sixth group race victory at the festival. I ask the question is there a better jockey in the World today or indeed a better ambassador for Italian “Galoppo”. More the pity he didn’t have the ride on Gianluca Bietolini’s Collinsbay in the Prix De Meautry(G3) over 1200 metres where in my opinion Vincent Cheninaud needlessly got the winner of the Tudini boxed in and despite finishing very well he could only make sixth. However he will have his day perhaps on this form Alduino Botti should be considering a raid on France with The Conqueror.

At Varese on Saturday the Citta Di Varese (HPA 2250 metres) went to the Marco Gasparini/Francesca Turri team when Catterpillar just resisted the flying finish of Miracle Of Love with the Lope De Vega colt Tout A Fait also representing the winning stable a close third. The Premio SIRE for two year olds over 1500 metres saw a surprise with Alduino Botti’s Ravens Pass colt Musicante getting the better of Dormello’s Alsini by half a length with a further two and three quarter lengths to Azul Bahia bred by Ringfort Stud. A winner on his debut Musicante he then was totally outclassed by Some Respect in the Criterium Varesino but he certainly improved to win here.

Gangster De Coddes had yet another impressive win in the Group 3 Piero E Franco Richard chase over 3,800 metres. The five year old son of Secret Singer without Josef Bartos moving a muscle had eight lengths to spare over stablemate Peace Garden with Gold Edition third. The Scuderia Aichner owned Josef Vana Junior trained five year old will now be aimed at the Group 2 Gran Steeple Chase D’Italia at Merano’s great two day meeting on the last weekend of September. The irrepressible eleven year old Broughton enjoyed the twenty first win of his career in the Associazione Arma Di Cavalleria cross country over 5000 metres after getting the better of Raffaele Romano’s Silver Tango with Le Moulleau a distant third. The first two will renew rivalry in the cross country championship The Premio Delle Nazione(G2 6000 metres) also at the Merano festival meet. Another challenger at the September festival will be Black Watch a good winner of the three year old hurdle from Sir Falco. The Romano gelding will be aimed at the Group 1 Criterium D’Autunno.

This week sees the reopening of San Siro on Wednesday and Capannelle on Friday after the summer recess and immediately on wednesday in the Premio Velocisti over 1200 metres we will enjoy the return to racing of Cima Emergency brilliant winner of the 2020 Premio Parioli (2000 guineas) The son of Canford Cliffs-Golden Song was the best Italian three year old of 2020 but sustained an injury when fifth in the Derby Italiano and after 245 days absence disappointed on his return when fourth to Keep And Love over nine furlongs in March. Now after another long break Bruno Grizzetti will seek to sharpen him up taking on some of the best sprinters such as Mitrandir a very good second to The Conqueror in the Premio Bersaglio, Sopran Vesuvio fourth and Ipompieridiviggiu seventh that day. An intriquing contest as is the Premio Porta Tosa over 1800 metres when the likes of Dormello’s Biederman Azzurro Cobalto, Tritta Sass and Sean will begin their Autumn campaigns
